It has a compartment in the back that can fit my large lap top! I’ve but books there and even folded a thin blanket and had it in the back. The top has a small zipper compartment and then underneath is a deep pocket that goes down into the bag. The front zipper is towards the bottom so when opening that, i have it laying down because i have items and clothing packed in it and opening it while standing has things fall out. I’ve had my knives, axe and rope attached to it and of course some patches. You can put clips on it anywhere. The molly seemed a bit extreme being all over the bag BUT it was easier for me to move things around to fit what’s needed. I highly recommend. The bay itself weighs one pound and the padding in the straps is so comfortable. The buckles help them from sliding. I use that and the waist strapI use this backpack for work so I can't speak on how it would hold up on outdoor adventures. I love it for my needs and I'm glad I purchased it. It holds my water bottles on the sides, my freezable lunch pack, glasses and has an attachable med pouch (think it's a med pouch?) that could be used for a number of things. I've decided that I will leave off the extra side bag/pouch as it looks floppy when attached. It will easily hold my gym clothes for a quick exercise after work. If you're needing this for outdoor use I'm sure it would be a great daypack. It came with a few patches but I bought a couple more. One was not really appropriate for work LOL! Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase but if you're a serious outdoors type you might need to read other reviews.Seems very sturdy...Bought this for my 15 year old who is the ultimate survivalist. He loves the bag and all of the different storage compartments, but it definitely wasn't nearly as big as we thought it was going to be. The size is the only reason it received 4 stars instead of 5. Overall he was very happy with it.No exaggeration... This is the best backpack I've ever owned and I'm 49 years old... My 15 inch laptop fits in the laptop compartment with a thick sleeve on with no problem... The lunchbag on the back is a very nice touch (wish it was a tad bit bigger though)... The many pockets and compartments are perfect for keeping your stuff organized...The one big thing about backpacks however, is the quality of the zippers.. That's the difference between a good bag and a bad one... If you don't overstuff your backpack it should hold up to wear and tear for a long time... We'll see...Not a hardcore adventure pack but great for day hikers who might need quick access to meds inhaler or EpiPen. Flat quick access rip panel, is held in place with snaps. I don't recommend you pull to hard or you will be pulling it off the pack and fighting to get it back on. There are work around options but not for your average customer.I thought it was a medium size but it’s large.
