We usually do the Lego SW advent calendar. TBH, it's just small builds and at the end of it, it is only a few minifigures and lots of very small lego pieces to be recycled back into circulation. This set seems much more interesting and memorable. We're going to try it this year instead. Stay tuned!Love the idea of science experiments to do during the holidays! Almost every advent calendar you can find has candy in as the daily prize…except for the Lego advent calendars which are pretty awesome… but then my son receives enough legos for Christmas, does he really need legos everyday leading up to the big day? ?? My wife and I found this calendar and were really excited for the idea of incorporating science into the holiday season instead of just toys and candy. It’s a great way to keep your child engaged in the learning process even while on break from school. The experiments in this box come in all different shapes and sizes which makes each day exciting and new! This advent calendar combines the best of both worlds… the holidays and surprises/gifts and the joy of learning new things about the creation around you☺️?⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This advent calendar is FANTASTIC. It’s probably the best science kit I’ve used. The first day is a pH experiment and it comes with a ton of extra materials to redo the experiment. You can even use the pH indicator liquid on your own juices and let your kids hypothesize (Will OJ turn red or blue? What about milk?). The booklet explains how to do each experiment and gives some scientific background. Some days are collectible rocks/fossils and info is given about those. It even comes with a pair of lab goggles, a pouch for the rocks and a white glove. Older kids can do these on their own, but the first day does have a staining powder, so I’d recommend at least supervising. Awesome kit, and would make a fabulous gift!I got this advent calendar for my 4 (about to be five) year old. She is very interested in experiments, so this is right up her alley. I like that every day is different and it’s more than just a chocolate a day. It’s exciting and it provides a learning experience during the days leading up to Xmas. I know that this is geared toward an older child but a younger child that’s interested just needs a little bit of supervision so it becomes a family activity.Inside the calendar flap there’s a little booklet and it explains each activity/experiment/rock. After opening the flap for the day, open the guide to the corresponding day to get the directions or information.On the days that it comes with a rock we will probably do our own Christmas activities, like build a gingerbread village or make homemade marshmallows for hot chocolate.Let me say that I'm typically not one that does the Advent calendar with my family each year. And I wouldn't have done it this year, except I ran across this one. I can't wait until Christmas this year to do the experiments with my kids. This type of Advent calendar is so much better than the typical ones that you open with candy or chocolates (not that I'm against getting either of those things), but it gets boring year after year. I know that my kids are going to have a blast with this one.This is the coolest concept ever. I love that there's experiments included, it's not just something traditional like chocolates for advent anymore! Great learning experience for children that also provides Christmas spirit. The box is a brightly colored and quite large, with a door to close over the openable tabs. Comes with everything you need to do the experiments as well, so you can save those items for future experiments. Highly recommend to your curious little one!I know my grandson will love this, if his twitchy anticipation of our last-week's experiment is any indicator. We performed the iconic candy mints in the bottle of diet soda experiment after watching a video of a chemist explaining the phenomenon. Open the cover to find the handbook that explains each day's discovery. Then, before day !, there's a window to open "right away!" plus 24 more days. I wish I were 9 years old and someone would give this to me. It's a winner for sure.Got this for my 5-year-old that always wants to do experiments. This advent calendar is definitely "mega" as described! It is perfect for kids that love science experiments and it has an experiment guide that is easy to follow along. There are 24 little windows to open, one for every day of December until Christmas! The quality is great and what you would expect from a National Geographic product.
